What We Do

The Auburn United Methodist Church offers many and varied programs & ministries to the people of the community and surrounding area. We encourage you to take full advantage of all that God has blessed us with that we may serve you and yours in Jesus’ name, and invite you to serve alongside us.

Christian Education

United Methodism has its roots in something small groups and something John Wesley called “Classes.”  From preschool age through retirement, there are opportunities for growth for everyone.  It’s not just Sunday School anymore.

 Missions

In the 1930s, a theologian by the name of Emil Brunner said “A church exists by mission just as a fire exists by burning.” The United Methodist Church in Auburn fully embraces that reality. In that spirit, our church encourages all involved to live mission oriented lives. Each month we pledge to support a missional need in our community, Conference and world.  It could be the kids in our local schools, folks in Kentucky, or people in Africa – the need is always real and we are ready to support these good causes with our time, talent, and material gifts.

How we support the Auburn Community

Scouting

The United Methodist Church has historically supported scouting as a vehicle for forming young people into outstanding members of the community.  We at AUMC are thankful that we hold the charters for Cub Scout Pack 356 and Boy Scout Troop 340 of the Abraham Lincoln Council.  They meet weekly and hold special events such as the Pine Wood Derby and Council Award dinners in our facilities.  For information on these fine organizations, call the church office or the Council at 217-529-2727.

Auburn Schools

Realizing that Auburn schools are some of the finest in Central Illinois, and that young people are our future, we support the District in many different ways.  Working with the administration, we offer opportunities to mentor students.  We annually collect school supplies for kids in need.  We offer a quiet place for ACT and other testing events.  We host Snowflurry, the school’s annual drug prevention program.  Supporting the Arts, we host the Fall, Spring, and Holiday choir concerts and the Middle School drum exhibition every year in our sanctuary.  Auburn Helping Hands, the organization that offers help for families in need during the holidays is supported heavily in our church and their annual Christmas shopping trip launches from our building.

Use of our Facility

God has been so generous in granting us a fabulous building that can support all manner of meetings and gatherings of not-for-profit organizations with space, a kitchen, audio-visual support when needed, and a completely handicap accessible facility.  We also offer other groups use of our building for a fee – weddings, showers, parties, and other celebrations are some of the events we have hosted.

Stronghold and other Missions

For many years we have hosted youth in the area dedicated to serving Auburn area residents in need as they go out to mow grass, rake leaves, paint, build, and repair homes.  Begun as Stronghold, a youth managed and directed ministry, it has taken on other names with the same mission, and we see no end to this vital outreach in the name of Jesus Christ.
