Hello Church Family,
As we shared in worship, I have been appointed to serve as pastor of Shelbyville First United Methodist Church beginning July 1. Since that announcement, many of you have reached out with kind words, prayers, and honest emotion. My family and I feel those same emotions. This church has been our home, and you have cared for us with great love and generosity. For that, we are deeply grateful.
Transitions in our tradition are never easy. They require trust, patience, and a willingness to walk forward even when we would prefer to stay where we are. In the coming weeks, we will continue to worship, grow, and serve together. The Staff-Parish Relations Committees from both churches will meet with our District Superintendent next week to begin the process of discerning your next pastoral appointment. I have confidence in their leadership and care for this congregation.
Last week in worship, we reflected on how Jesus prayed for his disciples to be strengthened to remain in the world. If you missed that message, you can find it on the church’s Facebook page. This Sunday, we will conclude our time in John 17 as we hear Jesus pray that his followers would be one. I look forward to gathering with you again and continuing the work God has placed before us.
Be sure to check out the updates below. As always, if you need anything, please call or text me. I’ll see you in worship!
- Pastor Michael Madden
